Wendy Wen Yi Leong is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She holds a PhD from Nanyang Technological University (2013), a BSc (Hons) from NUS (2009), and a Graduate Certificate in IP Law (2014). Her research focuses on polymer chemistry, catalysis, and green chemistry, with notable contributions to water-based catalytic reactions and IP strategy development.
Educations:
- PhD in Chemistry, Nanyang Technological University, 2013
- BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, National University of Singapore, 2009
- Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, National University of Singapore, 2014
Research Interests: Wendy’s work bridges chemical synthesis and intellectual property strategy. She pioneered international collaborations in green catalytic methods and developed patent strategies for biomedical and industrial applications. Her innovations include environmentally benign solvent systems and sustainable ligand synthesis from agricultural waste.
Awards: She received the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Merit Service Award (2019), Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award (2011), and NTU Research Scholarship (2009). Her work on micellar environments in catalysis was highlighted in the EPA’s Green Chemistry program.
Teaching & Industry: Teaches courses like CM5103 (Industry Practices in Chemistry) and CM5104 (IP & Entrepreneurship in Chemistry). Currently serves as an IP Business Partner at ResMed, focusing on global patent strategy, IP training, and innovation mining through workshops and Hackathons.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates internationally with groups like the Lipshutz Lab (UCSB) and Zhong Group (NTU), advancing cross-disciplinary catalytic methodologies.
