Dr. Wendy Tan is a Senior Researcher and Lecturer in the Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning department at Wageningen University and Research. She leads the NWO-funded R-LINK project (2016–2021), focusing on incremental urban development and community-linked initiatives to address long-term societal challenges. Her research expertise spans land-use-transport integration, mobility issues, and institutional perspectives in planning across Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. She previously served on the Megacities Foundation board (2010–2014) and received the Georges Allaert Prize (2014) for contributions to mobility and spatial planning research.
Dr. Tan teaches courses including Mobility and Network Infrastructure, Landscape Engineering, and Urban Space Planning at both BSc and MSc levels. She supervises theses on mobility, transport planning, and citizen participation. Her work emphasizes sustainable urban development, governance frameworks, and cross-national policy comparisons, particularly in megacities like Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Key projects include exploring transit-oriented development (TOD) strategies and co-creative planning methodologies.
Her recent research highlights include analyzing mobility inequality in Jakarta, assessing climate adaptation in informal settlements, and evaluating digital twins for urban planning. She collaborates with practitioners to bridge theoretical insights with practical governance solutions, focusing on equitable urban transitions and institutional learning mechanisms.
