Wendy St. John

Wendy St. John is a Lecturer at Sonoma State University, holding dual affiliations with the Department of Biology and the Department of Geography, Environment, and Planning. She specializes in ecology with a focus on riparian habitat restoration, freshwater ecosystems, and wildlife behavior. Her work emphasizes active learning pedagogy and community engagement. She coordinates environmental projects funded by the Center for Environmental Inquiry, connecting SSU faculty/students with local partners in water systems, fire resilience, technology, and field research.

Education: M.S. Biology (2015) and B.A. Biology with a Paleontology minor (2011), both from Sonoma State University.

Research interests include Copeland Creek restoration on SSU campus, benthic macroinvertebrate studies, biodiversity assessments via wildlife cameras, and reptilian reproductive behavior. She teaches courses like Biological Inquiry, Ecology, and Watershed Year programs.

Professional involvement includes roles on the School of Science and Technology’s Strategic Plan Task-force, Sustainability Executive Committee, and organizing the 2019 Sustainable Enterprise Conference. She has presented widely on topics like fire resilience, women in sustainability, and turtle conservation.
