Dr. Wendy M. Smith is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, specializing in ocular inflammation and immunology and medical retina. She serves as Program Director for the Mayo Medical Retina Fellowship and has received the Ophthalmology Teacher of the Year award from the Mayo Fellows Association in both 2018 and 2025.
Dr. Smith completed her medical degree at Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2006, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine, residency in Ophthalmology, and a fellowship in Uveitis and Medical Retina at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health. Her professional journey includes active participation in numerous committees and leadership roles within the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Board of Ophthalmology.
Her research focuses extensively on uveitis, with particular interests in epidemiology, diagnostic imaging, and clinical trials.
