Wendy Carlin

Wendy Carlin is a Professor of Economics at University College London’s Department of Economics, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and an external professor at the Santa Fe Institute. She leads the CORE Econ project, revolutionizing global economics education through open-access materials, and co-directs the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Centre on Wealth Concentration, Inequality, and the Economy. Her research focuses on macroeconomics, institutions, economic transition, and educational reform. She chairs the UK’s Office for Budget Responsibility Expert Advisory Panel and serves as Vice President of the International Economic Association.

Her research interests emphasize integrating institutions and inequality into macroeconomic models, as seen in her 2024 textbook Macroeconomics: Institutions, Instability, and Inequality. Her work spans financial instability, growth dynamics, and the societal impact of economic policies.
