Weimin Zhang is a Professor of Cinema at San Francisco State University (SFSU), renowned for her work as an award-winning filmmaker, cinematographer, and multimedia designer. She holds academic affiliations with the School of Cinema and teaches in the Department of Cinema at SFSU.
Education: M.F.A. and M.A. from Ohio University, Athens; B.F.A. from Beijing Film Academy.
Her research and creative work focus on documentary filmmaking, integrating art with technology, and exploring cultural narratives. Notable projects include The Ever-Lasting Flame – Beijing 2008, Missing Home: The Last Days of Beijing Hutongs, and immersive VR projects like Hutong in Live. She has received accolades such as the Women in Film Award, Grand Jury Prize at Montreal Film Festival, and inclusion in the Library of Congress.
Her work bridges traditional and digital media, emphasizing cultural preservation and cross-disciplinary innovation. She has contributed to academic publications, including an entry in The Encyclopedia of the Documentary Film.
