Weiguo Hu

Weiguo Hu is the NMR Director and Research Professor in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He holds a PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (1999) in Polymer Science & Engineering, and MS (1995) and BS (1992) degrees in Physics from Tsinghua University.

His research focuses on applying NMR spectroscopy to study polymer morphology, molecular dynamics, and diffusion in materials such as elastomers, photovoltaic materials, ionomers, and fire-retardant polymers. Key interests include understanding how nanoscale structural dynamics govern macroscopic material properties under extreme conditions.

Recent work includes studies on ceramic nanocomposite synthesis via photothermal pyrolysis, flame-retardant epoxy networks, and polymer-based MRI applications. His research spans interdisciplinary areas including materials engineering, analytical chemistry, and polymer physics.

Dr. Hu collaborates with multiple institutions and has contributed to advancements in polymer characterization, nanomaterials, and high-performance polymers. His lab is part of the Sylvio O. Conte National Center for Polymer Research, fostering collaborative research in polymer science.
