Weiguang Wang

Professor Weiguang Wang is a leading academic at the University of Wolverhampton, holding the title of Professor of Experimental Cancer Therapeutics in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. With over 35 years of experience in clinical and translational cancer research, he has made groundbreaking contributions to targeting NF-κB, cancer stem cells, and chemoresistance through drug repositioning and nanotechnology.

His research focuses on chemoresistance reversal using disulfiram and nanoparticle drug delivery, with a particular emphasis on breast, lung, pancreatic, and glioblastoma cancers. His work bridges experimental oncology, molecular therapeutics, and translational medicine.

Recent peer-reviewed publications highlight his innovations in PLGA-encapsulated disulfiram, PEGylated liposomes, and Copper(II) complexes for targeting cancer stem cells and overcoming hypoxia-induced resistance. These works span breast, lung, pancreatic, and brain cancers.

Professor Wang has received grant funding from Pancreatic Cancer UK, Innovate UK, and the European Commission for projects involving nanotherapy, drug repositioning, and chemoresistance. He has also served on the editorial boards of journals like British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research and Journal of Cancer Research and Therapy.

He has supervised PhD/MSc research projects on topics such as nanotechnology for disulfiram delivery, hypoxia-NF-κB-CSCs pathway, and anti-angiogenic therapies. In 2017, he co-founded the spin-out company Disulfican Ltd to commercialize his disulfiram-based formulations.
