Weifeng Su is a Professor and Director of Graduate Admissions in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He joined SUNY Buffalo in 2005 and has established himself as a leading researcher in wireless communications and networking.
Dr. Su received his educational degrees from prestigious institutions: PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware (2002), PhD in Mathematics from Nankai University, China (1999), and BS in Mathematics from Nankai University (1994). Prior to joining SUNY Buffalo, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Maryland (2002-2005).
His research focuses on wireless communications and networking, with particular expertise in MIMO systems, space-time coding, MIMO-OFDM systems, and cooperative communications for wireless networks. His work bridges theoretical foundations with practical implementations, as evidenced by his numerous publications and patents. Dr. Su has made significant contributions to space-time block codes, cooperative communication protocols, and MIMO system design.
Dr. Su's publication record demonstrates consistent high-impact research spanning two decades, with recent work focusing on federated learning over edge networks, advanced MIMO techniques, and cooperative communication protocols. His research shows a progression from fundamental coding theory to more complex network-level optimizations and emerging applications.
- 2010 IEEE International Conference on Communications Best Paper Award
- University of Maryland Invention of the Year Award (2005)
- University of Delaware Signal Processing and Communications Faculty Award (2002)
Dr. Su has maintained significant editorial responsibilities, serving as Editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications since 2012, and previously as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (2005-2009) and IEEE Signal Processing Letters (2007-2012). He co-authored the influential book 'Cooperative Communications and Networking' published by Cambridge Press in 2009 and co-organized special issues on cooperative communications for IEEE journals.
