Dr. Wei Liu is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Geneva's Department of Environmental and Aquatic Sciences (F.-A Forel), affiliated with the Section of Earth and Environmental Sciences. She holds a PhD in Environmental Science from Aix-Marseille University (2009) and previously held research positions at CEREGE and CEA in France. Her research focuses on nanoparticle-bio interactions, ecotoxicology, and environmental fate of pollutants, with a particular emphasis on freshwater ecosystems. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental science.
Her work examines mechanisms of nanoparticle toxicity in aquatic organisms, including microalgae, gastropods, and invertebrates, with recent projects on nanoplastics' sublethal effects and antibiotic resistance mediation. Key contributions include studies on silver nanoparticle kinetics, selenium nanoparticle toxicity, and biomolecular corona formation. She frequently presents at conferences like SETAC Europe and the International Conference on Environmental Effects of Nanomaterials.
Publications span topics like nanoparticle transformation in freshwater, metabolic effects on algae, and interdisciplinary approaches combining biochemistry, toxicology, and biophysics. Her research bridges environmental chemistry and ecological impacts, addressing critical gaps in understanding nanomaterial behavior under realistic exposure scenarios.
