Wazim Mohamed

Dr. Wazim Mohamed is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He serves as Medical Director of the Neurocritical Care Unit and Director of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship training program at Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Mohamed is also Associate Program Director of the Neurology Residency program, demonstrating his commitment to medical education and resident training.

Dr. Mohamed completed his medical education at Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore, India, followed by a Transitional Year internship at Sinai Grace Hospital/Detroit Medical Center. He completed his Neurology residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center, and subsequently pursued dual fellowship training in Neurocritical Care and Vascular Neurology at the same institution.

His research interests focus on prediction models for traumatic brain injury, critical care ultrasonography, and multimodality monitoring in neurocritical care. Additional areas of interest include status epilepticus and post-cardiac arrest recovery. Dr. Mohamed's scholarly work spans neurocritical care, vascular neurology, and status epilepticus management, with particular emphasis on new-onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) and therapeutic hypothermia protocols.

His publications demonstrate a strong focus on clinical protocols and evidence-based management in neurocritical care settings, with recent work examining trends in NORSE management, inflammatory profiling in cryptogenic NORSE, and optimal cooling duration for cardiac arrest patients.

Dr. Mohamed actively contributes to medical education as Associate Program Director of the Neurology Residency program and Director of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship, mentoring the next generation of neurologists and neurointensivists.
