Watufani M. Poe is Assistant Professor of Activist Media in Tulane University's Department of Communication. His interdisciplinary scholarship bridges Africana Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Anthropology, and History to examine media and cultural production within social justice movements.
Research focuses on:
- Black LGBTQ+ activism in transnational contexts
- Ethnohistoric analysis of resistance movements
- Media production in diaspora communities
- Intersectional feminist methodologies
Current projects include the monograph Resisting Fragmentation: The Embodied Politics of Black Queer Worldmaking analyzing activism in Brazil and the United States, and a special issue on 'Manifesting Black Queer Futures'. Professional experience includes prior faculty positions at the University of Pittsburgh and postdoctoral fellowship at Amherst College.
