Warren Mabee

Warren Mabee is a Professor at Queen's University, holding appointments in the Department of Geography and Planning. He serves as Executive Director of the School of Policy Studies, Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Science, and Director of the Queen’s Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy. He also has a cross-appointment to the School of Environmental Studies. His research focuses on renewable energy policy, biofuels, and sustainable bioeconomy strategies, with international collaborations through the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Dr. Mabee’s work bridges environmental policy and technology development, emphasizing regional renewable energy strategies such as positioning Eastern Ontario as Canada’s first Renewable Energy Region. His research evaluates policy frameworks for fossil fuel reduction and promotes commercialization of new energy systems.

• Key Projects: Evaluation of renewable energy opportunities in Eastern Ontario, partnerships with Sweden, Germany, and Japan, leadership in IEA Bioenergy Task 39 (Liquid Biofuels)

He holds a B.Sc.F., M.Sc.F., and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Forestry. His career includes postdoctoral research at UBC (2001–2003) and roles in UBC’s Forest Products Biotechnology group (2003–2008).
