Wan-Zi Lu is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Stony Brook University, holding a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (2021). Her research focuses on the intersection of institutionalization of care, political culture, and moralized markets.

Her book project "The Many Hands of the Healthcare State" examines bodily donation through comparative analysis of organ donation policies in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Through institutional and organizational analysis, she demonstrates how governance structures shape medical outcomes and market boundaries.
Recent publications appear in the Philosophy & Medicine series, Sociology of Development, and Revue française de sociologie, with awards from the American Sociological Association. She studies how institutional designs influence healthcare development, state authorities, and social welfare provision.
