Eva Lam is an Associate Professor in Learning Sciences and Asian American Studies at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy. Her work focuses on multilingualism, cultural diversity, digital literacies, and transnational learning contexts. She holds a PhD in Education from the University of California, Berkeley (2003). Lam has been affiliated with the Migration Storytelling initiative and has held editorial roles at journals like Reading Research Quarterly and Cognition and Instruction.
Her research explores how youth from migrant backgrounds use digital media to navigate transnational identities and social networks. Key themes include language practices, media representation, and the role of cultural diversity in education. Lam has received prestigious awards such as the Spencer Foundation Post-doctoral Fellowship (2006-2008) and the AERA Mid-Career Award (2011).
Her publications span topics like transnational youth media practices, LGBTQ+ digital activism, and documentary storytelling. Lam actively mentors early-career scholars through programs like the NCTE Cultivating New Voices fellowship (2014-2022) and the Literacy Research Association’s STAR fellowship since 2022.
