Walter Lucken IV is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). His research focuses on the intersection of public deliberation, the history of rhetoric, and rhetorics of democracy within the United States and the broader Anglophone world.

His current monograph project, Caverns of Fear: Crisis and Containment in the New American Century, examines political debate and controversy in post-Civil Rights U.S. political culture through historical methods and rhetorical criticism. He aims to demonstrate that the norms and boundaries of public discourse are a field of struggle.
As an educator, he emphasizes classical and ancient rhetoric, guiding students to balance truth and persuasion in ethical argumentation. His teaching supports students in developing confidence in crafting informed, sustained arguments.
