Professor Walter Federle is a Fellow and Director of Studies in Natural Sciences (Biological Part IA) at Jesus College, University of Cambridge. He serves as Professor of Comparative Biomechanics in the Department of Zoology, focusing on the functional morphology and biomechanics of insects, surface attachment mechanisms in animals, and insect-plant interactions.
- Academic Interests: Functional morphology, biomechanics, evolutionary ecology, bio-adhesion, and functional surfaces of organisms.
- Degrees: Diploma in Music (Violin, 1995), Diploma in Biology (1994), PhD in Zoology (1998), Habilitation in Zoology (2004) from Universität Würzburg.
Research Focus: Investigates mechanical adaptations of animals and plants, emphasizing insect biomechanics, adhesion mechanisms, and ecological interactions between insects and plants. Leads the Insect Biomechanics Group at Cambridge, which accepts PhD applications.
