Walt Golet is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maine's School of Marine Sciences, based at 350 Commercial Street in Portland, Maine. He holds a BS in Natural Resources from the University of Maine, an MS in Zoology from the University of New Hampshire, and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of New Hampshire.
Golet's research focuses on highly migratory marine species including tunas, billfish, and sharks. His applied research examines life history parameters to improve stock assessment models and reduce management uncertainty. Key research areas include age structure determination, stock delineation, predator-prey interactions, reproductive biology, and abundance indices. His work emphasizes collaboration with commercial and recreational fisheries stakeholders.
Beyond research, Golet contributes to fisheries management through appointments on NOAA's Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panel and as technical advisor to the ICCAT Advisory Committee. He regularly contributes to ICCAT's Standing Committee on Research and Statistics, influencing domestic and international allocation policies for highly migratory species resources.
