Wai-Leung Ng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology at Tufts University School of Medicine. His work focuses on understanding how bacteria like Vibrio cholerae adapt to different environments through signaling pathways, with particular emphasis on biofilm formation, virulence factor production, and quorum sensing mechanisms. His lab employs multidisciplinary approaches to study these processes, aiming to develop novel therapeutics against cholera.
Dr. Ng holds a PhD from Indiana University Bloomington (2006) and conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton University. He has been recognized with awards including the Rozan Award (2018) and the Russo Award (2015). His grants include NIH-funded projects studying quorum sensing pathways and pathogen-host interactions.
His research interests span bacterial pathogenesis, signal transduction, and microbial ecology. Recent work highlights the role of quorum sensing in Vibrio cholerae biofilm dispersal, phage defense mechanisms, and host colonization strategies. He actively teaches courses in microbiology at Tufts, including 'Intro to Microbiology' and 'Advanced Topics in Microbiology.'
Dr. Ng’s lab has contributed to over 40 publications, with notable work on cyclic nucleotide signaling, biofilm adhesion, and anti-virulence drug development. His professional activities include editorial roles and conference speaking engagements, reflecting his leadership in the microbiology field.
