Wah Cheung

Professor Wah Cheung is a Clinical Professor at the Westmead Clinical School, University of Sydney, and serves as Director of the Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology at Westmead Hospital, as well as Director of the Centre for Diabetes & Endocrinology Research. His career spans significant leadership roles including past presidency of the Australian Diabetes Society and advisory positions with Diabetes Australia and the National Diabetes in Pregnancy Advisory Committee. Currently, he co-chairs the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation In-Hospital Diabetes Management Committee and participates in the NSW Diabetes Taskforce.

• Research Interests: Diabetes in pregnancy, hyperglycemia management in critical illness, and diabetes care integration strategies.
• Clinical Trials: Led pivotal NHMRC-funded studies including the TOBOGM trial (2016-18) and TEXAIS trial (2017-19).
• Scientific Recognition: NHMRC grant recipient for diabetes detection in emergency settings and hyperglycemia stroke treatment research.
• Publications: Over 165 peer-reviewed articles focusing on gestational diabetes, acute hyperglycemia management, and postpartum diabetes risk.

His work on diabetic retinopathy screening and mobile health interventions demonstrates commitment to translational research and implementation science. He maintains active collaborations across emergency medicine, cardiology, and obstetrics.
