Véronique Lazarus is a Professor of Solid Mechanics at ENSTA Paris, conducting research at IMSIA (a joint laboratory involving ENSTA, EDF, CEA, and CNRS). She leads research in the Materials and Structure (MS) team within the Mechanics Unit (UME) and has made significant contributions to fracture mechanics, particularly in brittle materials and additive manufacturing applications.
Her research focuses on fragile fracture mechanics, combining theoretical, numerical, and experimental approaches. She specializes in understanding crack propagation, fracture resistance of materials, and the mechanics of fracture in anisotropic and additively manufactured materials. Her work bridges fundamental mechanics with practical applications in materials science and engineering.
The recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on phase-field modeling of fracture, with particular attention to crack path prediction, mesh sensitivity, and the influence of material anisotropy. Her research also explores the connections between computational methods and experimental validation, particularly using digital image correlation techniques to measure stress intensity factors along complex crack paths.
