Volker Sander

Professor Volker Sander is a faculty member in Department 9 - Medical Engineering and Technomathematics at Aachen University of Applied Sciences, specializing in Applied Computer Science. He serves as Building Manager for the Cologne Branch and is associated with the newly established Institute for Data-Based Technologies (IDT).

His research spans several cutting-edge areas in data technologies:

• Development of distributed computing systems using Pi Clusters for charging infrastructure management
• Blockchain applications for energy systems through the EU Interreg 'Blockchain for Prosumers' project
• Bioeconomy data analytics via the Digital Bioeconomy Interface Lab in collaboration with Forschungszentrum Jülich

Professor Sander's laboratory infrastructure includes a 144-node Pi Cluster, high-performance workstations, and an AI system with NVIDIA DGX100 graphics cards, supporting research in Apache Spark, TensorFlow, and Keras. His work demonstrates a strong focus on practical applications of data technologies in real-world systems.

Current projects reflect significant industry and research collaboration, particularly with Forschungszentrum Jülich, indicating an active research program with tangible applications in energy infrastructure and bioeconomy data systems.
