Volker Heuchert is a Research Lecturer in Greek Coinage and Curator of Greek and Roman Provincial Coins at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford. His academic background includes studies at Heinrich-Heine Universität Düsseldorf and the University of Oxford, where he completed a doctorate in Roman Provincial Coinage. He has held his current position since 2012 and is involved in the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum project and the digitization of the Ashmolean's numismatic collections via the Heberden Coin Room WebApp.
His research focuses on Roman Provincial coinage of the Antonine period (AD 138–192), exploring its implications for cultural, religious, political, and economic history. He co-edited Coinage and Identity in the Roman Provinces and is preparing a standard typology for Antonine provincial coinage as part of the Roman Provincial Coinage series. Recent work includes studies on forgery analysis, coin iconography, and Anatolian numismatic history.
He has led major museum projects, including the redevelopment of the Ashmolean Museum and the creation of RPC Online. His contributions bridge academic numismatics with public-facing digital resources.
