Vladimir Parfenov

Vladimir Parfenov is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology and Programming at ITMO University. He is a Doctor of Sciences (DSc) and has significantly contributed to programming education, organizing international competitions, and fostering ITMO's global reputation.

• Education: Graduated from St. Petersburg Lyceum of Physics and Mathematics #239 (1966), Department of Computer Engineering at Leningrad Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics (ITMO, 1972), and Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics at Leningrad State University (1973). PhD (1975), Doctoral thesis (1990).

His research focuses on training highly qualified software specialists, student programming competitions, and educational innovation. He co-founded ITMO's acclaimed programming training system in 1991, which has led to numerous championship wins, including six world finals appearances and multiple European/World Cup gold medals.

• Scientific Awards: Korolev Medal (1988), President's Prize (2003), Government of Russia Prize (2008), ACM-ICPC Founder's Award (2004), ICPC DeBlasi Award (2009).

Parfenov organized the North-Eastern European ICPC semifinals (since 1996) and served on the World Programming Championship's international committee. His work established the "Petersburg programmer" brand, enhancing Russia's software industry and global visibility.
