Vivienne Francis is a Reader and Senior Lecturer in Social Justice Journalism and Knowledge Exchange at London College of Communication. She founded the Refugee Journalism Project in 2016, an award-winning initiative supporting displaced media professionals. This project collaborates with global organizations like UNHCR, Bloomberg, and The Guardian Foundation to advance professional opportunities for exiled journalists.
Her work integrates pedagogical innovation, embedding displaced journalists into academic curricula and fostering student collaborations. This has led to new social justice journalism pathways at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Prior to academia, she worked as a BBC producer and journalist focusing on systemic injustices including deaths in custody and educational disparities.
Francis authored With Hope in Their Eyes: Compelling Stories of the Windrush Generation and holds a Doctorate in Professional Studies by Public Works. The Refugee Journalism Project has placed graduates in prominent media roles at BBC World Service and Bloomberg, described as 'life changing' for participants.
