Viswanath Ramakrishna is a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), serving as Assistant Department Head. He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Science and Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis (1991), and prior degrees from institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and St. Stephen's College, Delhi. His research focuses on control theory, optimization, and their applications in quantum systems, chemical physics, and material sciences. Key interests include quantum control for molecular systems, nonlinear inversion, and the development of algorithms for quantum computation.
Research areas include the mathematics of control theory applied to microworld systems, quantum control design for femtosecond photochemistry, and the theoretical underpinnings of exterior differential systems. His work extends to semiconductor heterostructures, molecular potential inversion, and quantum logic gate design. Recent projects address non-unitary models in quantum control and path planning on compact Lie groups.
Publications span topics like structured matrices, quantum state parametrization, and optimal discrimination of quantum systems. His career includes roles from 1995 at UTD, progressing through Assistant to Professor, preceded by research at Princeton and academic posts in California and St. Louis.
