Virginia Kerr is a Professor of Voice at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) and holds a vocal faculty position at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. Her expertise spans singing, English & American song performance, and performance psychology. She integrates psychotherapy principles into her teaching, addressing performance anxiety through her holistic approach. Kerr has performed internationally with major opera companies including the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and Rome Opera, specializing in 20th-century repertoire and world premieres.
Her research explores the psychological aspects of musical performance, culminating in her 2014 publication *Stage Fright* and her role as a psychotherapist specializing in performer anxiety. She co-founded the Festival de Musique de Leran in the French Pyrenees and maintains active roles as a master class instructor, adjudicator, and broadcaster. Awards include the Margaret Burke Sheridan Medal for contributions to classical music.
