Virginia Adán-Lifante is a Teaching Professor of Spanish and the World Languages Program Coordinator at the University of California, Merced, where she also serves as Director of the Spanish Program. She is affiliated with the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts within the Department of Literatures and Languages.

Her work bridges linguistic theory with cultural studies, examining how language learning intersects with social issues and cultural identity. She has developed specialized courses that explore these intersections, including "Representations of Domestic Violence in Hispanic Culture" and "Let's be Pragmatic."

As World Languages Coordinator and Director of the Spanish Program, Professor Adán-Lifante oversees curriculum development and program administration while maintaining an active teaching schedule. She has taught a range of courses from elementary Spanish to advanced topics including Spanish Composition and Conversation, Hispanic Cultures I and II, Spanish Linguistics, and specialized seminars. She is also the co-author of the Spanish language manual "Más: español intermedio," contributing to Spanish language pedagogy.
Professor Adán-Lifante plays a key role in the Spanish program at UC Merced, which serves both heritage and second-language speakers. The program emphasizes academic and specialized language skills alongside intercultural competence, preparing students for professional contexts where bilingualism is in demand. She actively participates in initiatives like "La Mesa de Español" that provide students with opportunities to practice Spanish language skills in informal settings.
