Virag Molnar

Virag Molnar is Associate Professor of Sociology at The New School for Social Research. A comparative sociologist examining urban transformation, her award-winning research analyzes architecture as a site of political contestation in post-socialist contexts. Her book 'Building the State' received the American Sociological Association's Mary Douglas Prize.

Current projects investigate street art scenes in global cities and housing policy transformations in Central Europe. Her methodological approach combines visual analysis, ethnography, and institutional history to study how built environments reflect power dynamics.
