معرفی
Viorel Barbu is a Professor at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași, Romania, where he has held this position since 1980. He also serves as the Director of the Institute of Mathematics at the Romanian Academy (since 1990) and is President of the Romanian Academy's Iași Branch. His academic career includes extensive visiting professorships globally, including institutions in the USA, France, Italy, Germany, and China.
Barbu received his education from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, earning a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1969. His research focuses on three primary areas:
- Control Theory: Analysis and synthesis of controllers for distributed parameter systems.
- Partial Differential Equations: Well-posedness and qualitative analysis of nonlinear PDEs.
- Infinite Dimensional Equations: Dynamics of evolution equations in Banach/Hilbert spaces.
His publications emphasize stochastic PDEs, fluid dynamics (Navier-Stokes), porous media models, and stabilization of distributed systems. Recent work (2009-2010) exhibits strong convergence toward stochastic analysis of degenerate diffusion processes and noise-driven control strategies for fluid systems.
Major scientific awards include:
- Full membership in the Romanian Academy (1991)
- Membership in the European Academy of Sciences (2008)
- Honorary doctorates from four universities
- The Simion Stoilow Prize (1972)
