Vincenzo Palermo serves as director of the CNR Institute for Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity (ISOF) in Bologna, Italy, and holds an Associate Professor position at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. His research leverages nanotechnology and supramolecular chemistry to develop advanced materials for electronics, aerospace, and biomedical applications through collaborations with major European industrial partners including Airbus, FCA, Leonardo, BASF, Nokia, and STMicroelectronics.
His scientific expertise spans Supramolecular Chemistry, Surface Science, Materials Science, Composites, Nanotechnology, Carbon Electronics, and Aerospace. Palermo specializes in graphene-based material engineering for flexible electronics, electrochemical biosensors, and energy storage systems. His interdisciplinary approach integrates chemistry, materials science, and engineering to solve practical industrial challenges while advancing fundamental knowledge in 2D materials.
Recent publications (2021-2024) reveal a dominant focus on graphene oxide applications in biomedical sensing (sweat analysis), environmental remediation (PFAS adsorption), and high-performance energy storage. His work demonstrates strong translational impact through industrial partnerships, with innovations in electrochemical sensors, membrane technologies, and structural batteries showing direct pathways to commercial implementation.
