Vincent M. Smith is an Associate Professor of Environmental Science & Policy at Southern Oregon University (SOU). He holds a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2011), an MS in Environmental Science from Oregon State University, and a BA in Biology from Truman State University. His research focuses on coupled human-environment systems, particularly food system design, community food insecurity, and the intersection of food policy and health. He employs community-based approaches to address socio-environmental challenges, collaborating across disciplines like human ecology, environmental sociology, and agroecology.
Smith teaches over 20 courses at SOU, including environmental science policy, sustainability, and sociology electives such as Food, Power, and Agriculture.
