Dr. Vincent Hénault-Brunet is an Associate Professor in the Department of Astronomy & Physics at Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Canada, and Director of the Burke-Gaffney Observatory. He previously held postdoctoral fellowships at NRC Herzberg (Canada), Radboud University (Netherlands), and the University of Surrey (UK). He earned his PhD in 2013 from the University of Edinburgh, focusing on the VLT-FLAMES Tarantula Survey.
His research explores star cluster dynamics, globular clusters' internal kinematics, and their dark matter content (e.g., black holes). He also investigates multiple stellar populations in clusters and kinematics of young massive clusters like R136. His group uses dynamical models and statistical techniques to probe cluster formation and evolution.
Recent work includes studies on globular cluster mass distributions, dark remnants, and interactions with the Milky Way. He leads initiatives for future missions like CASTOR and analyzes upcoming instrumentation's potential. Current research opportunities exist in star cluster dynamics at Saint Mary's.
Group members include Nolan Dickson (PhD), Abigail Battson (MSc), and undergraduates funded through awards like the NSERC USRA and Dr. John C. O’C. Young Award.
