Vincent Hilser is the Ralph S. O'Connor Chair and Professor and Chair of Biology at the Department of Biology, Johns Hopkins University. He earned his PhD from Johns Hopkins University and leads research into protein conformational fluctuations, allosteric signaling, and their roles in function, adaptation, and disease. His work integrates experimental and computational approaches to understand protein ensembles and their implications for biology and biotechnology.
- Education: PhD in Biology from Johns Hopkins University
Research focuses on conformational heterogeneity in proteins, including studies on allostery, intrinsic disorder, and thermodynamic modeling. Key projects explore ensemble-based models like COREX/BEST, energy landscape analysis (eScape), and tools for protein comparison (HePCAT). The Hilser Lab investigates systems such as the glucocorticoid receptor, adenylate kinase, and disordered proteins to uncover mechanisms of functional regulation.
Advising includes graduate students in programs like Chemical-Biology Interface and Molecular Biophysics. The lab’s work contributes to drug design, protein engineering, and understanding disease-related protein dynamics.
