Vincent Glode serves as the Pasi M. Hamalainen Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he joined the Finance Department in July 2009 after completing his PhD at Carnegie Mellon University. His academic appointments include editorial roles at the Journal of Finance, Review of Finance, and Management Science, along with leadership positions in the Northern Finance Association and Finance Theory Group.
Professor Glode's research program centers on theoretical models of financial intermediation and information economics, with particular emphasis on market microstructure, strategic expertise acquisition, and surplus allocation mechanisms. His work investigates how technological progress impacts rent-seeking behavior, how over-the-counter market structures influence trading efficiency, and how information asymmetries shape financial intermediation chains. This research agenda bridges industrial organization theory with financial economics to explain real-world market phenomena.
His publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to top finance journals including the American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, and Review of Financial Studies, with recent work extending into 2025. A unifying theme across his articles is the examination of how market participants strategically respond to information asymmetries and technological changes, often revealing counterintuitive efficiency implications for financial market design.
Professor Glode has received significant recognition including multiple Wharton Teaching Excellence Awards (2018-2024) and research honors such as the Terker Family Prize in Financial Research (2010) and Best Paper Awards from major finance associations. His scholarly impact is further evidenced by invitations to present at the Finance Theory Group Summer School and Corporate Finance Symposium.
In his educational role, Professor Glode teaches valuation courses across Wharton's undergraduate, MBA, and executive education programs, with current Fall 2025 offerings including Valuation (FNCE2070) and Financial Economics Under Imperfect Information (FNCE9230). His committee service includes the Teaching Excellence Committee, Dean's Advisory Council, and MBA program Executive Committee, reflecting institutional leadership beyond classroom instruction.
