Vincent Chong (莊志明), also known as Crystal Monkey, is a Lecturer in the Department of Art Practice at Stanford University. They are a Queer mixed-race Chinese-American multidisciplinary artist working across calligraphy, seal carving, painting, drawing, and performance. Chong creates community portraits and performances blending high camp drag, gogoboy, and gymnastics aesthetics with live calligraphy.
Research Focus:
- Chinese artistic traditions recontextualized through contemporary queer lens
- Hybrid performance formats merging visual art with physical theater
- Exploration of identity through portraiture and cultural symbolism
Exhibitions & Performances: Work shown at MoMA PS1, Metropolitan Museum of Art, La MaMa Galleria; Performances at Center for Performance Research, Abrons Art Center, and internationally.
