Viktoria Trautner is a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford in the Department of Earth Sciences. She earned a BSc and a two-year research MSc in Earth Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
- BSc in Earth Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
- MSc in Earth Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (experimental petrology, planetary bodies, fluid-rock interactions)
Dr. Trautner specializes in experimental mineral physics and computational seismology, combining high-pressure laboratory techniques with geophysical modeling. Her PhD work focused on the iron spin crossover in (Mg,Fe)O ferropericlase, the second most abundant mineral in Earth’s lower mantle, studying its effects on seismic wave velocities. She uses diamond-anvil cells and synchrotron x-ray diffraction to replicate deep Earth conditions, collaborating with seismologists, geodynamicists, and theoretical mineral physicists. Additional work includes machine learning applications in geophysics and stable isotope analysis of fluid inclusions in metamorphic rocks.
Her research contributes to understanding Earth’s deep interior dynamics and planetary formation processes, with methodological innovations in experimental and computational approaches.
