Viktor Smirnov is a teacher-researcher at ESEO (École Supérieure d'Électronique de l'Ouest) and a member of LAUM (Laboratoire d'Acoustique de l'Université du Maine) at Le Mans University. He belongs to the Transducers research team within the Institute of Acoustics.
Dr. Smirnov's research focuses on the intersection of signal processing and artificial intelligence, with applications in biomedical fields and instrumentation. His work specifically develops AI algorithms that integrate physical knowledge to:
- Guide and justify neural network architecture choices
- Train models on reduced databases to minimize energy consumption
- Improve interpretability of deep networks
- Overcome the "black box" approach in AI
As an educator, he teaches engineering courses covering deep learning, data science, and signal and image processing. His research contributes to the broader acoustic research framework at LAUM, particularly in areas involving sensor development and signal interpretation where AI methodologies enhance traditional acoustic approaches. The Transducers team, where Smirnov works, is part of a comprehensive research structure that includes specialized axes in Materials Acoustics, Opto-Acoustics, Ultrasonics, and other acoustic domains.
