His creative outputs include 24 albums and commissions for ensembles like the Silk Road Ensemble and International Contemporary Ensemble. Current research explores speculative musicalities, digital culture, and the politics of spatial-temporal experience in Black music.
Recent publications analyze microtiming in jazz, collaborative improvisation, and the ethical dimensions of musical practice. His accolades include a MacArthur Fellowship, Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, and multiple DownBeat Magazine Jazz Artist of the Year titles. At Harvard, he teaches courses like Black Speculative Musicalities and co-founded the CPCI doctoral program.
