Vidya Nadkarni is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of San Diego. She holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia, an MA from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and a BA (History) from St. Xavier’s College, University of Bombay. Her research focuses on the foreign policies of resurgent (Russia), aspiring (India), and surging (China) global powers, with a particular emphasis on strategic partnerships and global power dynamics. She has authored/co-authored multiple influential books, including Strategic Partnerships in Asia (2010) and The Foreign Policy of Russia (2023).
Dr. Nadkarni teaches introductory international relations courses and advanced topics in international relations theory, American foreign policy, and Russian politics. She has mentored numerous students and contributed to USD’s Honors Program for nearly two decades. Her work bridges theoretical and applied perspectives in global politics, emphasizing comparative analysis of emerging and established powers.
Her publications explore themes such as geopolitical strategy, security studies, and transnational threats, reflecting her expertise in analyzing how global powers navigate contemporary international challenges.
