Dr Vidal Paton-Cole is a Lecturer in Construction Management at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne School of Design, part of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. His research focuses on domestic housing construction, temporary works, and defects in residential buildings. He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and prior degrees from the University of Sierra Leone and Malaysia's University Technology Malaysia. Before academia, he practiced as a structural engineer in Victoria and taught at La Trobe University and the University of Sierra Leone's Fourah Bay College.
His expertise spans construction defects, occupational safety, and dispute resolution. He serves as an invited reviewer for journals like the Australian Journal of Structural Engineering and is registered with the Victorian Building Authority. Dr Paton-Cole’s work emphasizes innovative solutions for construction challenges, including IoT applications, AI in safety management, and regulatory reforms to address housing defects. His research also explores accessibility in housing design and sustainability trends in Victoria.
