Victoria García-Serrano is a Senior Lecturer in Foreign Languages (Spanish) at the University of Pennsylvania, coordinating the 1900 Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Contemporary Latin American Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a degree in Hispanic Philology-Linguistics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Her research focuses on contemporary Hispanic women’s narratives, particularly exploring themes of mental illness in literature. She co-authored a post-intermediate Spanish language textbook.
Her key work Mujeres perturbadas en la narrativa hispana (2014) examines depictions of mentally ill women in Hispanic literature. Earlier research analyzed the interplay of orality and writing in Guillermo Cabrera Infante’s Tres tristes tigres. She actively contributes to pedagogical theory in foreign language education.
Teaching responsibilities include Spanish language courses at advanced levels. She maintains an office in 414 Williams Hall with Fall 2024 office hours on Tuesdays/Thursdays 12-1pm.
