Victoria E. Rankin is an Associate Teaching Professor and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte). She serves as a Representative on the Honors Council for the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences (CHESS), with a term ending June 30, 2028. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, specializing in the sociology of education and academic achievement disparities.
Research interests focus on equity in education, social inequality, parent engagement strategies, comparative education systems, race and ethnicity dynamics, and the intersection of transportation infrastructure with school access. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte in 2017, she spent a decade as a senior researcher at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Washington, DC, leading projects on early childhood education, special education disparities, and college/career readiness. During this period, she also held an adjunct role as Assistant Research Professor of Sociology at The George Washington University.
Her work emphasizes applied research with community and policy impacts, reflecting a commitment to addressing systemic educational inequities through interdisciplinary approaches.
