Professor Victoria Coulson is a faculty member in the Department of English and Related Literature at the University of York. Her research focuses on 19th- and early 20th-century literature, psychoanalytic theory, and material culture. She previously held a Research Fellowship at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and served as President of the international Henry James Society (2021-22).
Her publications include Henry James, Women and Realism (2007) and Elizabeth Bowen’s Psychoanalytic Fiction (2020). Current projects explore trans subjectivities in Henry James’s fiction and the work of British psychoanalytic theorists Wilfred Bion and Esther Bick.
She supervises graduate students in areas such as Henry James, Edith Wharton, material culture studies, and interdisciplinary psychoanalytic theory.
