Victor Wilson is a Researcher at Åbo Akademi University, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities, Psychology and Theology, and the Department of Culture, History and Philosophy. He is currently the Coordinator of the EU-funded project Slavery, Abolition and Archipelagic Connections in the Swedish Caribbean (2024–2028), reflecting his central role in advancing research on Nordic colonialism.
His research interests span Colonial History, Caribbean Studies, Scandinavian Colonialism, Slavery and Abolition, Intellectual History, Maritime Law, and Cultural History. Wilson explores how neutral Scandinavian states leveraged free trade in the Caribbean, the legal and economic structures of colonial entrepôts, and the cultural memory of colonialism in Nordic societies.
Wilson's recent publications reveal a strong focus on the Swedish Caribbean, particularly Saint-Barthélemy, the Swedish West India Company, and the ideological underpinnings of Nordic colonial ventures. His work combines archival depth with transnational perspectives, examining neutrality, free ports, and the politics of memory. He contributes to both academic and public-facing knowledge through journals, book chapters, and entries in biographical dictionaries.
