Victor Sheng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Whitacre College of Engineering, Texas Tech University. His research focuses on data mining, machine learning, and crowdsourcing with applications in business, health informatics, and software engineering. He maintains an active research program and mentors graduate students.
Dr. Sheng received his education from the following institutions:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science from The University of Western Ontario (2007)
- M.Sc. in Computer Science from University of New Brunswick (2003)
- M.Sc.E. in Computer Engineering from Suzhou University (1999)
His primary research interests include Data Mining, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Crowdsourcing. He also investigates Data Security, Spatial Information Retrieval, and Decision Support Systems. His work has practical applications in Business Intelligence, Health Informatics, and Software Engineering.
Dr. Sheng has received several awards for his research contributions:

- Best Paper Award Runner-Up at KDD 2008
- Best Poster Award at the UW and IEEE Kitchener-Waterloo Section Joint Workshop on Knowledge and Data Mining (2006)
Dr. Sheng actively mentors PhD students and offers TA/RA positions. He has secured significant research funding, including an NSF grant (IIS-1115417) as PI for "Improving Data Quality and Data Mining Using Noisy Micro-Outsourcing" (2011-2017) totaling $355,628. Additional funding includes start-up funds from the University of Central Arkansas ($14,000) and prestigious fellowships from NSERC (Canada) totaling over $140,000.
