Victor Panaretos

Victor Panaretos serves as Full Professor and Chair of Mathematical Statistics at the Institute of Mathematics within the School of Basic Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). He holds additional appointments as a member of the EPFL Academic Strategic Committee (ASC) under the Vice Presidency for Academic Affairs, and maintains active roles across multiple institutional units including the Mathematics Section (SMA-ENS) and Doctoral Programs (EDMA-ENS).

His research expertise centers on mathematical statistics with deep specialization in probability theory, statistical inference methodologies, and advanced regression modeling. Panaretos has made significant contributions to multivariate analysis, particularly in uncovering dependence structures within random vectors and developing robust statistical frameworks for complex data systems. His work bridges theoretical rigor with practical applications across scientific disciplines requiring sophisticated statistical approaches.

Professor Panaretos maintains an extensive PhD supervision record with 19 doctoral students, including current advisees Georgakis Nikitas, Naepels Ulysse Imre Cornil, and Yun Ho. His mentorship extends through foundational courses such as Probability and Statistics for physicists, Statistical Inference using likelihood theory, Linear Models, and Multivariate Statistics. He leads the Chair of Mathematical Statistics (SMAT) at EPFL, which operates as a dedicated research hub for advancing statistical theory and its interdisciplinary implementations through collaborative projects and academic partnerships.
