Victor Luna, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neural Sciences at Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University. His research focuses on the neurobiology of cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease, utilizing mouse models and integrative techniques to identify molecular mechanisms for synaptic rejuvenation.
- Education: PhD in Neuroscience from State University of New York at Stony Brook; Postdoctoral training at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/RFMH/NYSPI.
The Laboratory on Synaptic Aging employs electrophysiology, optogenetics, and chemogenetics to model translatable memory impairments and assess therapeutic strategies. Collaborations with the Alzheimer's Center at Temple and institutions like Columbia University explore synaptic adaptations to cardiovascular risks and cellular pathologies in Alzheimer’s, as well as stress resilience mechanisms linked to mood disorders.
His work bridges synaptic biology, aging, and translational pharmacology, aiming to develop treatments for memory and mood impairments in neurodegenerative and psychiatric conditions.
