Victor J Lieffers

Victor J Lieffers is a Professor in the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on silviculture and forest biology, particularly the dynamics of boreal and mixedwood forests to improve sustainable management practices.

His research areas include tree recruitment, competitive relations, ecophysiology of vegetation, cold soil adaptations, photosynthesis in low light, light transmission through mixed canopies, root growth dynamics, natural reproduction of spruce and aspen, crown development in northern conifers, wind-induced branch breakage, and hydraulic conductivity in lodgepole pine stands. He investigates forest decline mechanisms and regeneration standards for public lands.

Recent publications highlight his work in boreal forest regeneration techniques, root biology, crown dynamics, and carbon allocation in trees. Key themes include reclamation of disturbed sites, ecological engineering, and forest management under climate stressors.
