Dr. Victor Gonzalez-Alonso holds a permanent position as scientific staff (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at the Institute of Algebraic Geometry, Leibniz University Hannover. He serves as Scientific Coordinator of the DFG-funded Research Training Group 2965 'From Geometry to Numbers', jointly hosted by Leibniz University and Humboldt University Berlin. Previously, he was a guest professor at Humboldt University Berlin (2020-2021) and a Junior Research Group Leader (2016-2020) at the Riemann Center for Geometry and Physics. His research focuses on algebraic geometry, including projective curves, Hodge structures, complex manifolds, and singularities.
Education:
- PhD in Mathematics (2009-2013) from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona), advised by Miguel Ángel Barja Yáñez and Juan Carlos Naranjo del Val
- Master's thesis (2008-2009) on plane curve singularities under Maria Alberich Carramiñana
Teaching: Extensive experience in algebraic geometry, algebra, topology, and mathematics for physicists at both Leibniz University and Humboldt University. Recently taught Algebraic Topology, Algebra I/II, and Linear Algebra courses in German.
Advising & Grants: Supervised 5 PhD students (e.g., Patrick Bloss), 4 Master's theses, and 7 Bachelor's theses. Co-leader of the ERC Starting Grant project under Matthias Schütt (2013-2016). Active in academic governance as Deputy Scientific Staff in faculty councils and curriculum committees.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the Institute of Algebraic Geometry and affiliated with the Riemann Center for Geometry and Physics.
